Meet Our Multicultural Liaison Officer: Huong Thai

Our school’s Multicultural Liaison Officer (MLO) supports newcomer students and families with settlement services, navigating the school system, language interpretation, and more.

The Multicultural Liaison Officer (MLO) program provides support in multiple languages for students and families who are newcomers and refugees. The Multicultural Liaison Officer works with school staff to welcome newcomer families and connect them with important services, resources, and supports within our school and in the local community.

Huong Thai is the Multicultural Liaison Officer at our school. Huong speaks Vietnamese and English and can also help you access support in other languages.

Huong is here to support families with:

  • Settlement services

  •  Navigating the school system

  •  Language and cultural interpretation

  •  Accessing community services

  •  Filling out school forms

  •  Parent-teacher interviews

  •  Getting involved at school, and more!

Bio:

MLO Huong ThaiHuong has been with OCISO since 1991. Huong loves helping newcomer students and families navigate the education system and referring newcomer families to community resources. 

Before joining OCISO, Huong worked as a settlement counselor in refugee camps in Hong Kong for 1 year. Huong has a Bachelor Degree in Linguistics.

In their free time, Huong enjoys playing badminton, hiking, and reading. Huong believes, “Be the best you can be.”
